Tributes flow for pregnant Greek woman and husband killed in Queensland crash

·

Tributes are flowing today for Rhiley Kuhrt, 22, and his pregnant wife Maree, 24, who lost their lives after their light plane crashed near Proserpine, Queensland on Sunday.

Maree (née Notaras) was 27 weeks pregnant with the couple’s first child at the time of the crash.

The couple were flying from Natal Downs Station near Charters Towers for a pregnancy appointment in MacKay on Sunday afternoon.

After their aircraft didn’t arrive in Mackay, an alarm was raised and following an intensive search it was found in dense bushland in the Clarke Range, with both passengers declared dead at the scene.

According to authorities, the couple faced intense weather conditions, with rain, thunders and difficulties in visibility.

The recovery operation might take days as weather conditions in the area are poor.

A GoFund Me page has been launched by Rhiley’s sister, Beccarah Markham-Gaudion, in response to news of the couple’s death and to help cover the cost of their funerals.

“Three incredible lives were cut way too short,” she said on the page.

Other friends and relatives have also paid tribute to the couple, with Zoe Cranney telling ABC News: “My all time [favourite] memory was making those delish Greek biscuits with her and her Yia Yia.”
