Jaimee Fourlis books a spot at this year’s Wimbledon

Jaimee Fourlis is one of six emerging Australian players who have qualified for this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

Fourlis had to stave off match points in her first-round qualifying match, but had no such troubles in the second qualifier, beating France’s Jessika Ponchet 6-4 6-4 to cap her career-best season.

She joins Jason Kubler, Max Purcell, Zoe Hives, Astra Sharma and Maddison Inglis at the tournament after they also booked their spots in qualifying matches.

Tennis players such as Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios earned direct entry to the men’s singles draw.

The singles draws will be conducted on Friday night (AEST time) and matches will begin on Monday.

Stefanos Tsitsipas advances to Mallorca Open semi:

Elsewhere, Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated American Marcos Giron 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the semi-final of the Mallorca Open.

It’s the second time the two have played each other this year – but Tsitsipas won their Acapulco quarter-final with more ease, coming through 6-3, 6-4.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 6, will play Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi next.
