Darwin’s Greek community gather to enjoy the annual GleNTi Cup

·

Despite Darwin’s Mini GleNTi being postponed this year due to supply issues, the GleNTi Cup still went ahead on June 7 at the Darwin Football Stadium.

The Cup kicked off at 6pm with a special exhibition match featuring the women squads of Hellenic Athletic Club and Darwin Olympic Sporting Club. Hellenic AC claimed victory 1-0.

Later, Greek fans could be heard cheering from the stands as they watched the men’s teams fight it out for top honours. This year, the final score was a draw between Hellenic AC and Darwin Olympic.

To conclude the event, a team of young dancers from OPA Dance Group provided entertainment to people in the stands with a short Greek dancing performance.

“We thank all the friends who attended, the sponsors, the unions and the volunteers who helped make the event very successful,” the Greek Orthodox Community of North Australia (GOCNA) said in a post on Facebook.
