‘We’re not immune’: Darwin’s Mini GleNTi postponed due to supply issues

·

Despite the excitement surrounding this year’s Mini GleNTi in the Northern Territory over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, the Greek event has been postponed at the last minute.

In a post on Facebook on Tuesday night, the Greek Orthodox Community of Northern Australia (GOCNA) confirmed the postponement and said it was due to “circumstances out of our control.”

According to NT News, the challenge of sourcing supplies from interstate for the Darwin festival was one of the reasons for the postponement.

“COVID caused problems nationally and internationally and has caused problems Australia-wide. We’re not immune from any of the issues around the country,” Nicholas Poniris, the President of GOCNA, told the newspaper.

Mr Poniris said supply shortages at Woolworths, the event’s major supplier, had also hit the event, with essentials such as food, utensils, generators, toilets and sanitisation stations in short supply.

The Mini GleNTi was organised earlier this year to replace the traditional Darwin GleNTi, which was also cancelled in April due to supply issues.

A new official date for the Mini GleNTi is yet to be announced, but interstate and local visitors who had already booked tickets to the event are encouraged to attend ‘GleNTi Live’ instead.

The event is a concert featuring Greek singer, Stelios Dionisiou, and will be held at Discovery Darwin.
