Jay Marinis and Olivia Savvas recognised in South Australia’s 40 under 40 list

·

Pub owner, Jay Marinis and Member of state parliament, Olivia Savvas have been named on South Australia’s 40 under 40 list of business, sport, politics, food, space, science rising stars.

Jay Marinis is the owner of an old pub in Norton Summit that he bought nearly two years ago. The Scenic Hotel is the cornerstone of Marinis’ plan to improve mental health in the wider community.

As a provisional therapist, Marinis teamed up with like-minded individuals to develop ‘The Topsoil Garden project’ which will transform two hectares of land opposite the hotel into a working produce garden for small group nature-based therapies.

“It’s about making everyone aware that everyone has intrinsic value,” Marinis says.

Olivia Savvas became the youngest member of state parliament at 25 years old after she won the northeast seat of Newland at the state election in SA.

Savvas delivered her maiden speech earlier this month and said she’ll use her youth to her advantage, advocating for young people and women. She continued on and said what she lacks in corporate experience, she makes up for in fight.

“And what you need in a Member of Parliament is a fighter and I’ve got that in droves,” she said.

Outside of her political life, she studied law and politics at Adelaide University and has worked as an analyst in a major bank.
