The long-running uncertainty surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future has ended, with the Milwaukee Bucks superstar traded to the Miami Heat in a blockbuster deal.
The two-time MVP was sent to Miami alongside Bobby Portis, with the Bucks receiving Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, two unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick swap, the No. 13 selection in the 2026 NBA Draft and a 2033 second-round pick.
The trade, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, is expected to be finalised on July 6, allowing both teams to explore further moves.
Antetokounmpo leaves Milwaukee after becoming the face of the franchise and delivering the Bucks their first NBA championship in 50 years. However, frustration over another disappointing season and uncertainty around the team’s direction intensified speculation about his future.

Despite injury setbacks limiting him to 36 games last season, the 31-year-old remained one of the league’s elite players, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists.
The move gives Miami a dominant frontcourt pairing of Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra now tasked with building a contender around the superstar duo.
The deal is a major blow for the Boston Celtics, who were considered one of the leading contenders to acquire Antetokounmpo. Celtics forward Jaylen Brown had reportedly been central to potential trade discussions involving the Bucks star, but a deal never materialised.
