AHEPA Sydney recognises excellence in Modern Greek at Macquarie University

·

For more than 40 years, AHEPA Sydney & NSW Incorporated has been a strong and consistent supporter of the Modern Greek Program at Macquarie University, helping advance Greek language and cultural studies in Australia.

That longstanding contribution was recognised on Friday, May 29 during the Department of Languages & Cultures’ 2026 Prize-Giving Night at Macquarie University, which celebrated student achievement and acknowledged the support of community organisations and academic partners.

As part of the evening’s celebrations, AHEPA-sponsored monetary scholarships were awarded to Georgia Nouris and Athena Korsanos in recognition of their outstanding performance in Modern Greek Studies.

The event carried particular significance as the university’s Modern Greek Program approaches its conclusion, marking a bittersweet moment for students, academics and members of the Greek Australian community who have supported the program over many decades.

Tributes were paid to the Department of Languages & Cultures, academic staff including Dr Patricia Koromvokis, professional staff and students for their ongoing dedication to Greek language education and cultural preservation.

For many in attendance, the evening served as both a celebration of student success and a reflection on the enduring impact the Modern Greek Program has had on Greek language and cultural education in Australia.
