Trump says Iran talks ongoing as tensions flare in Middle East

·

US President Donald Trump has claimed that peace negotiations with Iran are continuing despite escalating tensions across the Middle East.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump said: “Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

His comments came only hours after an Iranian media outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that Tehran had suspended negotiations and was opening “other fronts” in the conflict, including launching ballistic missiles towards American forces in Kuwait.

Trump also announced what he described as a halt in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, claiming both sides had agreed to stop attacks following separate discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives.

“I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back,” Trump wrote.

“Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.”

However, Netanyahu later indicated that Israel remained prepared to escalate military action if Hezbollah attacks continued.

“I spoke this evening with President Trump and told him that if Hezbollah does not cease attacking our towns and our citizens, Israel will strike terrorist targets in Beirut,” Netanyahu said in a statement released by his office.

“Our position on this remains unchanged. At the same time, the IDF will continue to operate as planned in southern Lebanon.”

The developments come amid growing instability across the region, with ongoing fears that the conflict could widen further despite diplomatic efforts.
