ARL Commission chair Peter V’landys has taken long service leave from his position with Racing NSW to become the NRL’s interim CEO following Andrew Abdo’s departure.
V’landys and Abdo held a press conference on Monday afternoon at Rugby League Central where they confirmed that from July 15 V’landys will operate as interim CEO.
Other executives have been flagged as potential CEO replacements, but V’landys is a favourite among the options. Should V’landys remain as NRL’s CEO, constitutional changes would be required due to his chairman position.
While V’landys insisted he would not step down as chair to become chief executive, he has not entirely ruled out the option.
“I’m just still recovering from the foetal position when Andrew resigned,” he said.
“So until I can get myself out of that corner, out of the foetal position, then I’ll start thinking about what the future is.”
