Sydney to host first anniversary of ‘Our People, Their Stories’ Living Museum

·

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has announced the organisation of an anniversary event in Sydney, marking one year since the establishment of the Living Museum “Our People, Their Stories”.

This important project, which was inaugurated by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in October 2024, aims to record and preserve the personal stories of the Greek diaspora in Australia, particularly those of first and second-generation migrants.

The anniversary event will take place on Saturday, 4 October 2025, at 6pm, at the Australian National Maritime Museum (2 Murray St, Sydney NSW 2000).

Honouring the event with their presence will be His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Greek Minister of Culture Ms Lina Mendoni, the NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Mr Steve Kamper, along with other distinguished guests.

As part of the celebration, there will be an official presentation of the “Our People, Their Stories” project in Sydney. The program will include the screening of a commemorative audiovisual feature, as well as a representative selection of recorded stories.

Finally, the event will be accompanied by an exhibition of historical objects linked to the migration history of the Greek diaspora in Australia.
