Macquarie University to welcome esteemed Greek scholar Dr Ifigeneia Dosi

·

Macquarie University has the honour of hosting another distinguished scholar from Greece this year, as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering international academic and cultural collaboration.

Dr Ifigeneia Dosi, Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Democritus University of Thrace, will visit the School of International Studies at Macquarie University from October 6 to 18, 2025.

Her research visit is fully funded by the IKY Scholarship Programme for the Development of Collaboration with Education Institutions or Bodies Dispersing Hellenic Culture Abroad for the year 2025.

Dr Dosi’s research focuses on bilingual language development, with particular interest in children acquiring minority and heritage languages. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals on topics related to language and cognitive development in bilingual children, including both typically developing learners and those with language impairments.

Beyond her academic research, Dr Dosi has provided training for educators working with refugee students and speakers of heritage languages. Her work explores the intersection of language, identity, and inclusive pedagogy in multilingual educational settings.

During her stay, Dr Dosi will participate in a number of research and community engagement activities, strengthening ties between academia and the broader Hellenic diaspora.

These include visits to Greek Orthodox and Greek Afternoon Schools, meetings with students from the Modern Greek Studies Program at Macquarie University, and consultations with key members of Sydney’s Greek community.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr Dosi to the School of International Studies at Macquarie University for research activities and a series of community engagement initiatives with schools, educational organisations, and stakeholders,” Dr Patricia Koromvokis, Lecturer at Global Cultures & Languages at Macquarie University, said.
