Ordinations of two new Bishops to take place in Sydney this weekend

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia (GOAA) is preparing for a busy weekend with the ordinations of two new Bishops at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Sydney.

On Friday 26 September 2025 at 7.00am, His Grace Bishop-elect Athenagoras of Canberra will first be ordained to the priesthood. Later that evening, at 6.00pm, the Service of the Great Message will be held for both Bishop-elects, marking the formal announcement of their election.

The following day, Saturday 27 September 2025 at 7.00am, His Grace Bishop-elect Athenagoras will be ordained to the episcopacy. On Sunday 28 September 2025 at 7.00am, His Grace Bishop-elect Christophoros of Kerasounta, Chancellor of the Archdiocese, will also be ordained to the episcopacy.

All sacred services will be presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, together with the Regional and Assistant Bishops of the Archdiocese.

The faithful are warmly invited to participate in these historic celebrations.
