Former SA Prosecutor Stephen Pallaras recovering in hospital after accident

·

Former South Australian Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Pallaras KC is in hospital after an accident last Friday, his campaign team has confirmed.

Mr Pallaras, who is standing as an independent candidate for his Real Change SA party at next year’s state election, has not had details of the incident or his condition publicly disclosed. However, doctors are said to be “positive about his progress and he is focused on his recovery.”

His team expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, noting: “We are incredibly appreciative of the hardworking staff in our health system and we wish to thank the team for their care during this time. We would also like to thank the community and supporters that have thrown their support behind Stephen and his family.”

The statement added that Mr Pallaras “is in good spirits and determined to return to full health as he is committed to standing up for South Australians and continuing to serve the community.”

Mr Pallaras, who previously made headlines as a strong critic of the state’s parole system and has pushed for tougher reforms to domestic violence laws and greater powers for the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), is preparing to contest the March 2026 election.
