The Greek Orthodox community in Melbourne is mourning the loss of Father Elias Kentrotis, Protopresbyter and founding priest of the Parish of St Haralambos in Templestowe and Doncaster, who passed away on 23 August 2025.

Father Elias faithfully served the Greek Orthodox Church for 49 years, dedicating 37 of those as the first and only parish priest of St Haralambos.

Under his spiritual leadership, the parish grew into a cornerstone for the local Greek Orthodox faithful, providing religious guidance, cultural connection, and a strong sense of community.

The parish announced his passing in a heartfelt message on social media, praising his service to the parish community.

“His legacy of faith, love, and devotion to Christ and His Church will remain with us always. May his memory be eternal,” the post read.

Tributes flew underneath the social media post, with many remembering the priest as a kind and faithful man.
