Saint Nektarios Fawkner marks 50th anniversary with tribute and vision for the future

·

The Church of Saint Nektarios in Fawkner, Victoria celebrated its 50th anniversary with emotion and grandeur on Sunday, July 14.

Organised by the local parish and Parish Council, the event honoured the church’s legacy and looked ahead to its future.

His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora attended on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, offering heartfelt wishes and blessings for the historic occasion.

Tributes were paid to the church’s founding priest, the late Fr Ioannis Limoyiannis, whose grandson accepted an honorary plaque on behalf of the family.

Another plaque was presented to the daughter of Fr Spyridon Vandoros, who was unable to attend in person. Fr Spyridon was recognised for his many years of dedicated service during challenging times.

The current Parish Priest, Fr Konstantinos Apostollelis, was also acknowledged for continuing the legacy “with zeal, vision and pastoral care.”

In his address, Bishop Evmenios reflected on the living nature of the Church and said, “The future of the Church depends on how alive, active, and bright our faith is today.”

He praised the parish as a “spiritual jewel” of the Greek Orthodox Diocese and encouraged the faithful to continue their mission with “courage, hope and prayer.”
