Greek authorities have detained five individuals, including the ex-wife of University of California Berkeley professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski, in connection with his July 4 murder in Agia Paraskevi, northern Athens.
Jeziorski, a 43-year-old Polish national, was fatally shot while visiting Greece to see his 10-year-old twin children and attend a custody hearing.
He was gunned down in broad daylight near his ex-wife’s home, sustaining five gunshot wounds to the chest and neck, according to police.
Investigators believe the ex-wife orchestrated the killing, while her current partner has allegedly confessed to shooting the professor.
Three other foreign nationals, also detained, are expected to be charged with complicity. They claim they were hired only to intimidate Jeziorski and arrived after the shooting had taken place.
The murder weapon has not been found, but police believe it originated from central Athens.
Authorities confirm the victim and his ex-wife were in a contentious custody and property dispute.
Though she denies involvement in the murder, investigators suspect the killing was driven by personal motives.
