On Tuesday, May 20, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia conducted a Sanctification Service for the inauguration of the newly renovated soup kitchen dining hall at the Greek Orthodox Parish of Saints Constantine and Helen in Newtown, Sydney.
“This space, I can say, is where the heart of the charity of our Archdiocese beats,” the Archbishop said with evident pride following the Sanctification Service.

Archbishop Makarios acknowledged the foundational work of former Parish Priest Fr Nektarios Zorbalas, who established the soup kitchen, and praised current Parish Priest Fr Nicholas Stavropoulos for continuing the ministry “with much love, devotion and self-sacrifice.”
The Archbishop also thanked all those involved in the renovation and called on the faithful to support the soup kitchen’s mission.
“Support this work of the Parish and our local Church,” he urged, “because it is a work for the glory of God and for the healing of the needs of our needy and afflicted brothers and sisters.”
