Use of face masks in supermarkets made mandatory again in Greece

·

Supermarket employees and customers are now required by law to wear face masks as of Saturday (July 18), according to a joint ministerial decision issued on Friday.

The news was announced by the Secretary General of Commerce and Consumer, Panagiotis Stampoulidis, who said the decision was been taken by the National Committee for the Protection of Public Health against Covid-19.

“The use of non-medical mask in supermarkets by employees and consumers is mandatory,” the Secretary General noted.

Greece has seen a spike of coronavirus cases since beginning of the month. Experts have suggested that the spike is not only due to the arrival of tourists, but also due to relaxation of protection measures among the local population.

While health experts warn of a possible second wave of coronavirus, the government has not issued any plans yet to impose more restrictions.
