South Melbourne FC extends winning streak with victory over Manningham United

South Melbourne FC continued their impressive winning streak with a comfortable 2-0 home victory against Manningham United Blues on Friday, June 7 night at Lakeside Stadium.

This match, part of the 17th game of the National Premier League Victoria, saw South Melbourne FC’s dominance on full display as they secured another three points.

Coach Esteban Quintas opted to rest key players Jordon Lampard and Jack Painter as a precaution, leaving them out of the squad. Mario Barcia, Andy Brennan, and Nahuel Bonada started on the bench, allowing younger talents like George Tsitsinaris, Zak Spiteri, Mac Hilson, and Mihailo Marinkovic to step up. The decision paid off quickly, with 20-year-old Marinkovic opening the scoring in just the 10th minute.

South Melbourne FC’s supremacy on the field was undeniable throughout the match. Manningham United struggled to pose any significant threat, managing a few counterattacks that were expertly neutralised by Hellas’ swift defensive recoveries. Meanwhile, the home team created numerous scoring opportunities, consistently pressuring the visitors’ defence.

Hellas extended their lead in the 68th minute when substitute Andy Brennan found the back of the net, securing the final 2-0 scoreline. Goals from Marinkovic and Brennan were enough to see South Melbourne take all three points. Based on the match’s dynamics, the score could have been even higher, reflecting South Melbourne’s dominance.

This victory gives South Melbourne a five-point lead at the top of the table following a comfortable win at Lakeside. With this win, South Melbourne maintains their momentum and now shifts focus to their upcoming fixtures.
