Team Greece into semi-finals of the All Nations Cup in Melbourne

·

Team Greece has advanced to the semi-finals of the All Nations Cup with a thrilling penalty shootout win over Somalia.

Greece were trailing 1-0 at halftime but a late goal by Yianni Dangelis in the 82nd minute levelled the game and after no score in extra time, Greece won 7-6 on penalties.

Yianni Dangelis scored the winning penalty, sending Greece into the semi-finals.

Coach George Katsakis was full of praise for his boys after the game.

”Despite being one goal down, and at times, struggling in the second half, the boys dug deep and pulled off a remarkable victory,” Katsakis said.

“The majority of this team has come straight from a long NPL season into this tournament and we commend the players for their dedication and commitment throughout.”

The Greek Community of Melbourne’s (GCM) Vice President, Michael Karamitos, also commended the boys on their victory.

“Greece has a realistic chance of winning the All Nations Cup for the second year in a row,” Mr Karamitos said. “We now look forward to the semis next weekend.”

The semi-finals will be held on Saturday, 18 November at Knox City FC.
