Pancretan Association of Melbourne hold Father’s Day dinner

·

The Pancretan Association of Melbourne hosted a Father’s Day Tavern Night in honour of all the fathers of the Association on Saturday, September 16, at the Pancretan Members Pavilion.

With over 150 members and their friends in attendance, the event was a huge success. The night was full of great food including traditional Antikiristo, a traditional technique of cooking meat in Crete and Cretan Pilafi.

The night started with a fantastic performance by two youth members, Manolis Adamakis (13) and Jordi Dermitzakis (16), who have been learning how to play Cretan musical instruments such as the Cretan Lyra, accompanied by their teacher George Sevastakis. Then followed a dance performance by some of the Pancretan Intermediate Dance Group.

A plethora of great prizes were raffled on the night, kindly donated by wonderful people and friends of the Association. All fathers were gifted with a bottle or Raki at the end of the night as a momento and fitting tribute.

A special gift was given to the eldest father on the night, Spiros Paterakis and the youngest father on the night, Petros Fragiadakis.

Finally, after 12 months since the function to raise money to buy a Food Truck and the facilities, the Association was able to present to its members where the $200,000 donations went, with the Food Truck and Caravan on display outside on the night. The Food Truck and Caravan will be handed over to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, who will use the facilities to feed the homeless.

The Pancretan Association of Melbourne thanked all the members and friends that attended, the Raffle Donors and all the volunteers for assisting on the night.
