George Giannaros former Sydney Olympic FC president dies at age 55

Former Sydney Olympic FC (SOFC) President, George Giannaros, passed away on Friday, September 15, at the age of 55.

Mr Giannaros served as Vice President and as Senior Football Director in 2008 and became President of the club in 2009 to 2013. He also served as director on the board in its final year of the NSL in 2003- 2004.

During his time as President, Sydney Olympic claimed the Premiers and Champions in the NSW Premier League 2011 season.

He also played an instrumental role in securing a 25-year lease for SOFC at Belmore Sports Ground as well as a $5.9 million upgrade to the home ground.

Mr Giannaros was diagnosed with cancer in July, 2023. Club supporters have taken to social media to pay their respects and share messages of condolences.
