Newcastle Olympic women’s team to make historic first appearance on home soil

·

The Newcastle Olympic women’s team will face off against Merewether this weekend at Darling St Oval, their first match to be played on home soil.

The day will see all four Herald Women’s Premier League teams playing at home for the first time, marking a historic day for the club.

“It is a great opportunity for the entire Newcastle Olympic community to come out, watch and cheer on our players for the first time on home soil,” a statement from their website says.

After a win away at Mid Coast in Taree in Round 1 of the Herald Women’s Premier League competition last week, the girls will surely be looking to secure a victory at Merewether this weekend.

On Saturday, the Youth NPL teams will travel to Cooks Square Park in Maitland for Round 2 of the Youth NPL competition. With the mens team having their first game washed out, they will be eager to begin the season with a win.

Newcastle Olympic was established by Greek immigrants in the New South Wales city of Newcastle in 1976, remaining one of the most successful football clubs in the National Premier League Northern NSW.
