Telstra signs long-term agreement with Greek energy giant Mytilineos

·

Australia’s leading telecommunications and technology company Telstra has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to source energy from a solar farm in Queensland being developed by Greek energy giant Mytilineos.

The estimated $150 million, 120 MW Munna Solar Farm is set to be built 40 kilometres away from the city of Gympie, according to PV Magazine.

Under this agreement, Telstra has revealed it will buy half of the energy generated by the solar farm, which will be built on a 255-hectare site.

Mytilineos has already started pre-construction works on the solar farm. This will be Mytilineos’ ninth solar farm to be constructed in Australia.

Despite having no project completion date, the solar farm will connect to the national grid via the existing overhead power line infrastructure.

“We’ve supported more than $1.1 billion worth of renewable energy projects across Queensland, Victoria, and New South Wales as a way to reduce Australia’s reliance on non-renewable energy from fossil fuels,” Product and Technology Executive for Telstra Kim Krough Andersen said.

“Once these projects are fully up and running, our share of their renewable energy output will be equivalent to more than 80% of our consumption.”
