Maria Sakkari charges into Indian Wells semi finals

Greek tennis player, Maria Sakkari, has charged into the Indian Wells semi finals after defeating Czech player Petra Kvitova 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 today.

The start of the match was everything for the Czech, finding solid returns that gave her an early break.

In the seventh game, despite Sakkari recovering a break, Kvitova quickly showed her weapons to go ahead 6-4 in 41 minutes.

Later, the Greek improved her shots, took risks and recovered to level the score. After several games without movement, Sakkari got aggressive to attack, break and tie for 7-5 in 59 minutes.

In the decisive set and with two consecutive breaks, Sakkari took a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 triumph after 2 hours 17 minutes.

The victory means Sakkari will next face Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals.
