Presented by The Greek Festival of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney’s journalism and writing program, the Greek Australian Writers’ Festival returns on April 19 for its fifth year.
Founded and directed by Walkley Award winning journalist and academic Dr Helen Vatsikopoulos, the festival brings together a diverse group of Greek Australian writers.

This year’s program features a wide range of books exploring themes such as multiculturalism and the arts, environmental change and extinction, as well as reflections on the complexities of the 21st century diaspora.
Other works revisit the writings of Patrick White and Charmian Clift, and include stories which are shaped by conflicting voices, contradictions and fresh interpretations of Greek culture.
Featured authors include Jacqueline Andronicus, Alexandra Dellios, Koraly Dimitriadis, Vrasidas Karalis, Natalie Kyriacou, Helena Pantsis, Nikos Papastergiadis, Peter Papathanasiou, Andrew Pippos, Zoe Terakes, Dina Tourvas, Nadia Wheatley, Andrew Jakubowicz, Angelo Loukakis and Fazal Rizvi.

The festival will also host a series of in-conversation sessions, giving audiences insight into the writers’ creative process and their perspectives on the Greek Australian experience.
Participants in these sessions will be Dr Vatsikopoulos, Anthony Macris, Peter Polites, Nadia Wheatley, John Mangos, George Paxinos, Kathy Kallos, George Vardas, Alfred Vincent and Gabriella Accaria.
In addition to literary events, the festival will present the Mythical Kythira photographic exhibition by Jacqueline Andronicus.
Lunch will be provided courtesy of Messinia Catering Services.
