Cross-party Greek delegation marks March 25 with key meeting at NSW Parliament

A cross-party parliamentary delegation from Greece met with Greek Australian politicians at NSW Parliament House in Sydney on Wednesday, March 25, to discuss matters of mutual interest and celebrate Greek National Day.

The visiting delegation represented a broad spectrum of Greece’s political landscape and included Maximos Charakopoulos, Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy; Filippos Fortomas, New Democracy MP and Chair of the Hellenic Parliament’s Special Permanent Committee on Greeks Abroad; Stavros Michaelides of PASOK; and Konstantinos Barkas of SYRIZA. They were joined by the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, George Skemperis.

Greek Australian MPs who were present included Steve Kamper, NSW Minister for Multiculturalism, and Eleni Petinos MP.

The visit was facilitated by the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney and reflected ongoing efforts to deepen institutional links between Greece and one of its most prominent diaspora communities.

During the visit, the Greek MPs toured Parliament House and held discussions highlighting the presence and meaningful contribution of the state’s Greek community.

The meeting concluded in a celebratory atmosphere, with all participants joining in the exclamation: “Happy Greek Independence Day!”, commemorating the National Day of Greece.
