Turkey has rejected a European Parliament resolution criticising Ankara over alleged violations of the sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus, describing the claims as “baseless” and politically driven.
The resolution, one of the European Parliament’s most critical assessments of Turkey in recent years, raised concerns over Ankara’s “Blue Homeland” maritime doctrine, as well as issues surrounding the rule of law and judicial independence.
In response, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry accused the report of being shaped by “misinformation” and a “deliberately political agenda,” claiming it reflected anti-Turkey positions within the European Parliament.
Ankara said the resolution risked undermining efforts to improve EU-Turkey relations amid growing geopolitical challenges, and rejected criticism of its judiciary, insisting courts operate independently and without external influence.
The ministry said questioning legal proceedings for political reasons was unacceptable and called on the European Parliament to take a more constructive approach towards Turkey and its stalled European Union accession process.
