Greek Australian Nikos Sousamidis reunites with popular Greek singer Peggy Zina

·

Greek Australian guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer, Nikos Sousamidis, had the surprise of his life on Friday, November 10, when he finally had the chance to reunite with popular Greek singer Peggy Zina.

Peggy was recently in Australia for a musical tour alongside guest star Kostas Karafotis.

Whilst she wowed crowds in cities such as Melbourne and Adelaide, it was during her show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre that she reconnected with Mr Sousamidis.

The pair first met in 2000 in the Greek city of Thessaloniki and Mr Sousamidis was her Music Director and Maestro from 2001 to 2007. Mr Sousamidis was beside Peggy as she made a name for herself on big music stages across Greece such as the Maskes Club, Asteria Glyfadas, Apollon Palace, Diogenis Pallas and Politia Club.

16 years later and Peggy called Mr Sousamidis onto the stage in Sydney to perform two songs with her.

Mr Sousamidis tells The Greek Herald the reunion was very special for him, especially when Peggy prologued his arrival on stage with, “Australia has stolen one of my friends and colleagues.”

“Our friendship is very strong and I consider Peggy family. We grew up artistically together,” Mr Sousamidis said.

“I’m very honoured that she invited me on stage and it was a very emotional moment when she prologued and talked about me.”
