Pop on your best fancy dress for Apokries at The Cyprus Club in Sydney

·

Grab your best fancy dress or masquerade outfit because you’ve been invited to the Cyprus Community of NSW’s Apokries party on Friday, February 24.

The Apokries event is being held at Meraki Restaurant at The Cyprus Club in the Sydney suburb of Stanmore.

Doors will open at 6pm, with a live band performing from 8pm until late.

Functions, Events and Marketing Director for the Cyprus Community of NSW, Andrew Paschali, explained the meaning being the Apokries event for Cypriots.

“Cyprus has held Apokries Carnivale for at least 3500 years before the arrival of Christianity and today it also marks the beginning of Lent which leads to the celebration of Easter,” Mr Paschali told The Greek Herald.

“The Cyprus Community Club has traditionally marked the event with dress up and costumes, with dance and of course food to celebrate the passing of mid winter in Cyprus.”
