Sydney Olympic have comprehensively smashed Manly United 5-1 at a rainy Cromer Park on Friday evening as they once again pushed their intentions for a top six finals finish.
A memorable hat-trick to Ryan Feutz saw him strike in the 10th, 45th and 83rd minutes of the game whilst a wonder strike to Adam Parkhouse was arguably the pick of the bunch as he too impressed against his former side.
Sydney Olympic began with a fast start to the match scoring in just the 10th minute thanks to Feutz’s first goal of the evening. He collected the ball after a well-worked run before firing home in-between Manly’s defensive pair of Aaron O’Driscoll and Jesse Piriz.
Then in the blink of an eye it was 2-0 in the 13th minute after Cyrus Dehmie scored an easy tap-in goal after a brilliant run down the flanks from Connor O’Toole.
The hosts were presented two good chances in the 21st and 25th in their attempt to pull them back into the match. Firstly it was Harry McCarthy’s on-target shot that deflected off the back of Ian Gordon. Darcy Burgess’s ball into the box then took a deflection off Zac Zoricich before falling to the feet of McCarthy as he failed to score again.
Up the other end of the field in the 34th minute Parkhouse produced a goal of the season contender to put Olympic up 3-0. He stepped inside of Martinello, before evading Maxwell Pengelly and then Burgess as he curled his ball into the far side of goals from distance.
Feutz produced his second strike shortly after continuing Olympic’s rampage. This time he received the ball on the edge of the box from Seth Clark before he looped it over a despairing Manly goalkeeper Levi Kaye and into the back of the net.
Farah Koko opened the second half pushing forward strongly for Manly through his evasive run, then shot in the 49th minute forcing a quality stop out of rival custodian Jack Gibson.
That continued in the 59th minute when Jack Armson was forced to dispose of Cai Evans’s dangerous ball into the area.
Experienced Olympic defender Ziggy Gordon then came to the rescue in the 68th minute as his last ditch tackle in rainy conditions prevented Koko from being one-on-one with Gibson, with Manly continuing their push for a goal.
Koko made his next chance count with a thunderous strike from outside the box in the 69th minute. His powerful shot left Gibson diving for the ball far too late, as Koko only needed one touch.
However, it was always going to be Olympics night and in the 83rd minute Feutz secured his well-deserved hattrick. Michael Vakis’s pass across the face off goals found Feutz who made no mistake ramming it home.
Sydney Olympic goalkeeper Jack Gibson gave a good insight post-game following his side’s huge victory in the Northern Beaches.
“It was a big game for us in the context of making the finals. We got some early goals which was extremely good.
“We knew that Manly would be incredibly strong at home and we wanted to battle that. We got through the first part and went from there.”
