The former Metropolitan of Ganos and Chora, Amphilochios, died on Sunday, February 15.

His passing was announced by Archimandrite Nektarios Pokkias, who wrote: “Our sweet Elder, the former Metropolitan of Ganos and Chora, Amphilochios, a few moments ago journeyed into eternity. May his memory be eternal. May we have his blessing… He is now near his Elder, Saint Amphilochios Makris.”

Born Adamantios Tsoukos in 1938 in Lardos, Rhodes, he studied at the Patmian Ecclesiastical School and the Theological School of Halki.

Ordained Deacon in 1962 and Presbyter in 1963, he served as administrator of the Halki seminary, parish priest, preacher in Patmos and nearby islands, and professor at the Patmian Ecclesiastical School. He had also visited Oceania, including New Zealand.

Known for his missionary and pastoral work, particularly among youth, he was later elected Metropolitan of Ganos and Chora of the Ecumenical Patriarchate before retiring.

He remained an active spiritual father in the Aegean, especially in Agathonisi, until his final years.
