Private collection of Cypriot artefacts in Sydney to be returned to Cyprus

A private collection of Cypriot artefacts in Sydney, Australia will be returned to the Republic of Cyprus this Thursday, May 18 at 6pm.

An event at The Cyprus Club in Stanmore, Sydney will mark the occasion and is being hosted by The High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus, Antonis Sammoutis, and The Cyprus Community of NSW.

Dr Marina Solomidou Ieronymidou, Head of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities, will be accepting the artefacts on behalf of Cyprus.

Leading up to the event, Dr Ieronymidou will deliver a lecture for the Near Eastern Archaeology Foundation at the University of Sydney on Wednesday, May 17.

Dr Ieronymidou will also guide a public discussion on repatriation of Cypriot antiquities at the
Chau Chak Wing Museum on the day of the handover to celebrate International Museums Day.
