Heliades Women’s Network get together to celebrate in Victoria

The Hellenic Women’s Network ‘Heliades’ gathered at YASSAS The Greek Way at Southbank, Victoria on Sunday, April 30 for a special lunch to celebrate Protomagia.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis; Georgie Crozier MLC; and the former Victorian Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos.

Speeches were given on the day about the significance of Protomagia, which is also known as Labor Day in Greece.

Rena Frangioudakis referred extensively in her speech to Labor Day and to the people who fought and in many cases sacrificed themselves for better working conditions and for the establishment of the eight-hour working day.

There was a lot of dancing at the celebration.

Also, the Consul General referred very warmly to the important role that every mother and every woman plays in the family and in society in general.

The Heliades network honoured mother’s on the day by giving a beautiful bouquet to the lucky winner of the lucky door raffle. The whole celebration was filled with food, drinks, fun and dancing.

Greek music was played at the event.
