Sydney plastic surgeon Richard Sackelariou faces charges of child sexual abuse

·

New South Wales plastic surgeon Richard Sackelariou, 69, has been accused of procuring and abusing eight underage girls in Sydney and Newcastle, according to ABC News.

Dr Sackelariou was initially charged in November with abusing two underage girls he allegedly met online.

In Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, crown prosecutor Kristy Mulley said there were Commonwealth and state charges, and the number of child complainants was now eight. Police allege the abuse took place between 2021 and 2022.

Dr Sackelariou has been charged with 32 offences. Charges include multiple counts of having sexual contact with a child, with the youngest being 13, and multiple counts of intentionally sexually touching a child between the ages of 10 and 16.

According to ABC News, police charge sheets submitted to court show Dr Sackelariou’s alleged victims were offered cash for sex.

Police did not suggest the alleged victims were Dr Sackelariou’s patients at his Double Bay practice, where he has worked for 20 years.

A one week adjournment has been asked by both the prosecution and defence, in order for the Commonwealth charge certification process to be completed.

Dr Sackelariou had previously been refused bail. The matter is due back in court on May 10.
