Archbishop Makarios of Australia attends Ecumenical Patriarch’s liturgy service in Constantinople

·

Archbishop Makarios of Australia has attended a Lenten Vespers liturgy officiated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity in Stavrodromi, Constantinople.

The liturgy took place during the 5th Sunday of Lent on April 2.

At the end of the service, the Ecumenical Patriarch introduced Archbishop Makarios to the congregation and asked him to address the crowd.

In his address, Archbishop Makarios thanked the Ecumenical Patriarch for his warm greeting and stressed how Orthodox Christians have a “great responsibility to preserve and transmit to future generations the witness of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.”

Archbishop Makarios’ latest overseas trip comes as he also visited Athens, Greece earlier this year to participate in roundtable discussions about the current war in Ukraine.

Last year, the Archbishop also travelled a number of times to Greece to hold meetings with Greece’s Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Greece’s Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias.
