Greek athletes geared up for the Melbourne swimming championship

With three Greek entries, the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2022 begin today at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre at Albert Park.

There are three Greek swimming entries in the qualifying phase of the event. Apostolos Christou will start the 100m backstroke at 11.50 am. At 12.18pm, Kristian Gkolomeev will swim in the 50 meter butterfly race and at 12.56pm Andreas Vazaios in the 200 metre medley.

Cyprus is also participating in the tournament with the 18-year-old swimmer Anna Hadjiloizou. The talented swimmer will jump into the pool on Wednesday morning in the 50m butterfly.

Greece’s swimming federation coach, Panagiotis Velentzas, is optimistic for the team.

“We are in Melbourne to succeed. All three of our athletes have acclimatised smoothly to the schedule and the weather and our goal is to be in the finals…” Velentzas told The Greek Herald exclusively.

“In Melbourne, what we want is to improve our positions as well as our performances, which will also be new pan-Hellenic records, and of course to enjoy nice races.”
