Prominent Sydney businessman Nick Moraitis passes away

Prominent Sydney businessman, Nick Moraitis, passed away on Monday night at the age of 87 after a battle with cancer, 2GB has reported.

Moraitis was a pioneer of the fruit and vegetable industry, and later became one of Australia’s biggest and most successful racehorse owners.

His horse, Might and Power, won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double in 1997 and returned the following year to capture the Cox Plate.

Tributes have flown for Moraitis this morning with 2GB radio host, Ben Fordham, saying “he captured the hearts of the nation during a phenomenal streak in the late 90s.”
