‘Footprint’: Greek artist creates land art piece in honour of Paxos Biennale 2022

·

Greek artist, The Krank, has completed a 1000-square meter land art project titled “Footprint” near the Mongonissi bay in Greece in honour of this years Paxos Biennale.

Paxos Biennale takes place on the island of Paxos from June 7 to October 31 and features works that have been specifically created especially for the festival by the participating artists with materials found locally.

The founder of the Paxos Biennale, Italian born Marina Tomacelli Filomarino, has an affinity for Paxos, inspired by its diverse sites. She created this festival and invites artists to express their creativity in this unique environment.

“We wanted to identify contemporary artists, that have the ability to create thought provoking and site specific works in remote areas,” Filomarino says.

“I believe sculptures get a much greater depth In nature than in galleries.”

As a result of her love of the island and the Ionian Sea, she has also developed the aim to increase healthy tourism to the island long term.

The large-scale installation is a poignant metaphor for humanity’s continuing and devastating impact on ecological systems worldwide.

To create this impressive work, the artist worked silently for 15 days, shaking up the island of Paxos with his bold and touching message.

Specifically, artwork spotlights the urgent need to balance between economic growth, social well-being, and environmental conservation.
