Arsenal youngster Konstantinos Mavropanos completes loan transfer to FC Nurnberg

·

Konstantinos Mavropanos has left Arsenal to join Bundesliga 2 team FC Nurnberg on loan for the rest of the 2019/2020 football season.

The Greek defender has struggled with injuries since arriving in north London from PAS Giannina in January 2018, making just eight first team appearances for Arsenal.

FC Nurnberg sporting director Robert Palikuca released a statement on the club’s website: “Konstantinos is a robust, two-man and central defender strong in headers.

“We had already aimed for a loan in the summer. Due to the rehab after his injury, it would not have made sense six months ago. We would like to expressly thank Arsenal for the good exchange and the trust that the club has placed in us.”

Mavropanos is expected to assist with FC Nurnberg’s defensive issues, with the team currently ranked 16th in the Bundesliga 2 table.

Despite not being a priority starting choice at the Emirates, the decision to send out Mavropanos is being questioned by Gunners fans, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta already struggling for defensive options this season.
