A 70-year-old Greek woman has suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Melville Road and Victoria Street in Brunswick West on Thursday morning.
According to police, emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 8.30am following reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a dark-coloured hatchback while crossing the road.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud collision before rushing to assist the woman, who was left unconscious on the road after the impact.
The vehicle reportedly slowed and briefly stopped following the crash before leaving the scene. Police believe the car was a rental vehicle.
Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have not released an update on her condition.
Victoria Police is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are working to identify the driver. Police have called on the motorist to come forward.
