Australian Ambassador presents Battle of Crete commemorative coin to Greek President

·

The Ambassador of Australia to Greece, Alison Duncan, recently paid an official visit to the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tassoulas, highlighting the enduring historical and diplomatic ties between Australia and Greece.

During the meeting, Ambassador Duncan presented President Tassoulas with a commemorative coin issued by the Royal Australian Mint to mark the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete and the Greek Campaign of 1941.

The specially issued coin honours the courage, sacrifice and shared wartime experience of Australian and Greek forces during one of the Second World War’s most defining campaigns.

It also serves as a tribute to the people of Crete, whose resistance and protection of Allied soldiers forged bonds of friendship that have endured across generations.

The presentation comes amid a year of commemorative events held across Australia and Greece to recognise the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete, a campaign remembered as a defining chapter in the long-standing relationship between the two nations.
