John Tanios childcare centre placed into liquidation amid tax debts

·

A southwestern Sydney childcare centre operated by John Tanios has been placed into liquidation after the Federal Court ordered Angel’s Paradise Group Revesby to wind up over unpaid tax debts.

The collapse comes as the Revesby centre is linked to the operator’s former Wagga Wagga childcare business, which was shut down in May last year following inspections that uncovered 23 breaches, including allegations children were confined to wheelchairs as punishment and infants found eating food scraps from the floor.

The Federal Court order on May 19 places the Revesby business under the control of liquidators, with creditors including the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The amount owed has not yet been disclosed.

Liquidator Andrew Cummins of BRI Ferrier has been appointed to investigate the company’s financial position.

BRI Ferrier said the business had “a number of unpaid creditors including the ATO” and confirmed its “investigations into the company’s affairs are at a very preliminary stage.”

Cummins said he had spoken with Tanios and obtained initial information about the company’s operations, adding, “We expect to have a clearer understanding of the company’s position over the coming weeks.”
