Peter Antoniou named on Young Socceroos Squad for 2026 Asean U19 Boys Championship

·

CommBank Young Socceroos Head Coach Trevor Morgan has selected a 23-player squad for the 2026 ASEAN U-19 Boys’ Championship to be held in Medan, Indonesia in June.

The squad features a mix of fresh talent and established contributors, including the return of Medin Memeti (Melbourne City) who was part of Australia’s AFC U20 Asian Cup title-winning squad in early 2025.

Seven players have earned their first call-up to the Young Socceroos squad including goalkeepers George Plusnin and Lachie Charles, defenders Alexander Garbowski and Mikael Evagorou-Alao and midfielders Beckham Baker, Oliver Dragicevic and Alexandro Nunes.

13 players from the squad that featured in the recent Australia–China Friendship Series in March have been selected, promoting continuity and momentum within the group.

The squad includes 18 players based at Australian clubs, along with five playing overseas.

CommBank Young Socceroos’ Head Coach Trevor Morgan said the tournament would play a key role in shaping the squad ahead of the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers in August and September 2026.

“With our focus firmly on qualifying for the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2027, this tournament presents an opportunity to broaden our squad and build greater depth within the program,” Morgan said.

“We’re looking to increase the number of players with international experience in a tournament setting.

“This is a great opportunity to test the team in tournament conditionsr before qualification begins, so it’s important we continue to build cohesion while also assessing new talent within the framework of our playing style and expectations.”
