A senior Greek defence delegation visiting Australia and New Zealand for the 85th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Crete was welcomed to St Basil’s Homes NSW & ACT in Randwick this week.

The delegation was led by Konstantinos Bouzos, Chief of Staff of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, and included Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos, Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Greece in Australia, Flight Lieutenant Eleni Theodorou, Head of the External Affairs Department of the Public Relations Directorate, and Lambrini Kokkori, Officer for Middle East Affairs at the Directorate of International Relations.

Their visit formed part of the delegation’s commemorative program in Australia, honouring the enduring wartime ties between Greece, Australia and New Zealand forged during the Battle of Crete.

The delegation was warmly received at St Basil’s Randwick by Chairman James Jordan, CEO Diana Horvatovic and members of the organisation’s management team.

During the visit, the officials toured the chapel, facilities and communal spaces at St Basil’s, learning more about the organisation’s work supporting elderly members of the Greek Australian community.
