A senior Greek defence delegation visiting Australia for the 85th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Crete was officially welcomed at the Greek Consulate in Sydney this week.
The delegation was led by Konstantinos Bouzos, Chief of Staff of Greece’s Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), and included Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Greece in Australia, Flight Lieutenant Eleni Theodorou, Head of the External Affairs Department of the Directorate of Public Relations, and Lambrini Kokkori from the Directorate of International Relations.
The officials are in Australia to participate in commemorative events marking 85 years since the Battle of Crete, one of the most significant campaigns involving Greek, Allied and Cretan resistance forces during World War II.
During the visit, Greek Consul General in Sydney George Skemperis guided the delegation through a special photographic exhibition on the Battle of Crete currently being hosted at the Consulate.
Mr Skemperis also briefed the delegation on matters concerning the Greek Australian community and the ongoing role of the Consulate in supporting diaspora relations and cultural engagement.
