Thousands celebrate as Patras Carnival parade lights up the city

·

An explosion of colour, creativity and satire filled the streets of Patras, Greece as the grand parade of the Patras Carnival unfolded on Sunday afternoon.

Around 50,000 young participants from 190 carnival crews took centre stage, bringing to life the spirit of the city through elaborate costumes, inventive floats and performances marked by humour, rhythm and artistic flair.

Central to the celebrations was the long-running ‘Hidden Treasure’ game, which once again highlighted the enthusiasm and imagination of Patras’ youth.

The festivities concluded late in the evening at the Agios Nikolaos pier, where the traditional closing ceremony saw the Carnival King delivered to the flames.

The symbolic act, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display, conveyed a message of rebirth and hope, drawing the celebrations to a dramatic close.

Throughout the weekend, Patras was flooded with visitors keen to experience the carnival atmosphere firsthand, with favourable weather contributing to the vibrant mood across the city.
