FBI releases person of interest as manhunt for Charlie Kirk’s shooter intensifies

·

The FBI says a person detained in connection with the fatal shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk has been released following interrogation.

“The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement,” FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on X.

“Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency.”

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 10, during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The campus and surrounding area were placed under lockdown as police launched a large-scale search.

Law enforcement presence remains heavy around the university, with helicopters circling overhead and officers sweeping buildings. Roadblocks have caused traffic congestion in the northern Utah town as police continue their manhunt for the shooter.

The FBI’s Salt Lake City office has also set up an online form for the public to submit information about the attack.

The killing of the Turning Point USA co-founder has shaken political circles nationwide, drawing tributes from President Donald Trump and sparking vigils in Utah and Arizona.
