Greece delivers five patrol boats to strengthen Coast Guard

·

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s strengthened maritime security as the Hellenic Coast Guard received five new high-speed patrol boats at an event organised by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy on Tuesday, September 2.

“A strong Coast Guard means strong maritime defence for Europe, as Greece’s maritime territory coincides with Europe’s external borders,” Mitsotakis said.

He stressed the vessels upgrade the Coast Guard and confirm Greece’s commitment that “Greek waters will remain safe and that legality will extend throughout their entire territory.”

Addressing migration pressures, Mitsotakis noted the patrol boats serve a dual role: “They have defensive capabilities, and they are also designed for humanitarian operations, including search and rescue.”

He underlined that Greece’s migration policy balances border security with the protection of human life.
