·

In a successful weekend for Team Hellas, Greece clinched five medals in the Paris Paralympics with its first ever medal in taekwondo.

In the fight for bronze in the 65 kilogram category, Christina Gkentzou defeated China’s Yinan Yao in a 14-4 in victory.

On Saturday, August 31, Eleni Papastamatopoulou won the second bronze medal for Greece in taekwondo in the +65 kg category (K44) of the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Lida Maria Manthopoulou took the country’s first silver medal in the 100m sprint.

The fourth “blue and white” medal in Paris came from Thanasis Konstantinidis, who in his last attempt in the F32 final, set a personal record by throwing 38.65m to win the silver medal.

Among the victors, Grigoris Polychronidis obtained icon status after earning his seventh medal in the BC3 category of boccia on Sunday, September 1 in Paris.

Polychronidis earned Greece’s third bronze medal, and fifth medal overall (alongside two silver ones) in a successful first four days of the Paris Paralympics.

“We set out to Paris for the seventh medal, and why not get the eighth in the next one?” said the 41-year-old athlete, who has earned a medal in every Paralympics since 2008.
